About this calculator

Etsy's fee structure is more complex than most sellers realize. Between the listing fee, transaction fee, payment processing fee, and optional advertising fees, Etsy takes a meaningful cut of every sale. This calculator breaks down each fee component so you can see exactly how much you keep after Etsy takes its share.

The core Etsy fees are: $0.20 listing fee per item (renewed each time it sells), 6.5% transaction fee on the total sale price including shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee on the total amount the buyer pays. If your item is sold through Etsy's Offsite Ads program, an additional 12% to 15% fee applies on that sale.

For a $35 item with $5 shipping, the total fees add up to approximately $4.80 before COGS — that is 12% of revenue in fees alone. Add materials cost and your actual shipping expense, and many sellers discover their profit margin is much thinner than expected. This calculator reveals the true profit per sale so you can price your products accordingly.

If your Etsy margins are uncomfortably thin, consider raising prices (Etsy buyers are less price-sensitive than Amazon buyers), optimizing your materials sourcing, or using Etsy as a customer acquisition channel while building your own DTC site where you keep more margin. Many successful Etsy sellers include a card or insert with their orders directing customers to their own website for future purchases, gradually shifting their customer base to a higher-margin channel.
